Materials for the Beginning Bookmaking course at Eclectic Academy
The following materials and tools are suggested for the Beginning Bookmaking
course at Eclectic Academy taught by Kristi Schueler. If you are not concerned
about archival properties and just about learning the techniques, substitutions
of less expensive materials can be made with success.
Suggested Materials
- ~ 60 Sheets Text Weight (Printer or Copier) Paper
- ~ 10 Sheets of Standard Matte Card Stock
- ~ 6 yds of Fibers, String or Ribbons
- 1 Needle (needs to fit 1/2 yard of one of you fibers)
- 1 Push Pin, Needle Tool or Awl
- 6 Identical Size Envelopes
- 1 Square package of Post-it Notes
- 1 Golf Pencil
- Decorative Papers or Fabric or Tyvek, Acrylic Craft Paint and a Sponge
Brush
- Chip Board (recycled cereal boxes are great)
- Mat Board (can often get free or inexpensively from frame shops)
- 13 Skewers (as long as your text paper is wide, plus 1.5 inches minimum)
- Adhesive (Yes!, PPA, PVA or Xyron recommended)
- Adhesive Applicator of Choice (stiff bristle stipple brush, old credit
cards
- Craft Knife (sharp)
- Cutting Mat
- Cork-backed Metal Ruler
- Bone Folder (craft sticks, dried out ball-point pens or old credit
cards can be used in a pinch)
- Decorative Doo-Dads (charms, beads, UTEE tiles etc.)
- Scanner or Digital Camera for sharing your assignments (alternate
arrangements can be made if you don't have access to either of these,
please contact Kristi once the course has began)
- A site to upload photos of assignments (some recommendations will
be given in Lesson 1)
