April 1 - 4, 2004
On Tuesday, March 30th, a wildfire started NW of Fort Collins along the Poudre Valley near a public area called Picnic Rock. This fire was started by a man burning his garbage without a permit. As of April 7, 2004 the nearly 9,000 acre fire was almost fully contained. It has cost over $2 million dollars to fight, it burned down a $1/2 million dollar house as well as a garage and six firefighters were hurt during the fighting of the fire. While it has been contained there will be many more days of watching and taking care of hot spots to be sure they don't flare and cause further trouble. This outrages me that someone who lives here and knows first hand how dry we have been can be so totally careless. Despite my obsession with grids and squares, I think I chose this grid lay out as a way for me to give some order and control to something that was so totally out of control. I have been updating the small text on the bottom as the cost of fighting the fire has climbed. The images were from the Fort Collin's Paper, The Coloradoan. They have an archive of photos and articles here. |
