It was not my first wheel - that was An Ashford Traditional. The reason for the Schacht it - it's can be scotch tension or Double drive and it's just a beautiful, well functioning wheel - I also have a Lendrum for travelling, and it's great, but I wold get it double treadle - it's much easier on your back. Good Luck and Happy Birthday! I have a Schacht matchless double Treadle.

I have 4 wheels - my latest one is the Schacht and I use it the most. My 2nd fav is the Clemes and Clemes (they sell for $150 on e-bay) I've had it for 30 yrs. The others are the Ashford Joy which is great too and the Kromski Symphony. I can't think of another wheel I would like. This fact stuns me. All these wheels have different uses and they are all used frequently. If I only had to have one it would be the Joy for the portability. Try out a lot of wheels before you decide. I have also heard from some guild members that they think it is the best all purpose wheel. I have a Lendrum double tredle — love it! It's only a single-treadle, and I keep saying one of these days I'm going to invest in either a double treadle or an ashford country spinner (to make big fat huge skeins of big fat huge yarn...the thought of which makes me all woooozy with glee), but for now, I'm madly in love with the Lendrum and will probably keep it forever, just because. (One never forgets one's first love, see.) :) Are you thinking about getting one? (I may just not be far enough back in the archives to tell yet...) If you do, let me know. I've got more fiber than I can reasonably use in, oh, say, five lifetimes now, and will gladly send more <strike>bribes</strike> gestures of good will toward other new spinners if you let me know yur favorite colors. :) I’ve got a Lendrum, too — and just to chime in on the general Lendrum-love going on….it’s faboo.
