007 Snap a Dozen Photos - January

I think I can call the first thirty days of Project 365 a succes. Of the thirty days, I took 28 photos on different days. I did cheat a tad on January 2nd and 26th. The first was because I heard about the idea on the 3rd and I hadn’t taken any photos on the second and I really liked the idea of photodocumenting 2007 as a whole. The photo on the 26th was not taken on the 26th as my meds and pain levels had me a little out of it and I totally spaced taking a photo that day. I’m not officially a part of the project so I don’t think any Project 365 police will be pounding down my door for cheating a tad. The idea of the project is to take more photos more consistently and it has certainly acted as a photographic catalyst.

I did not choose any specific theme for January. Instead, I wanted to post photos that were a snapshot of the day in some form. I ended up with an interesting smattering of photo subjects (some were double classified):

  • 2 shots of Emma
  • 2 Miscellaneous Objects of the Day
  • 3 shots of various parts of my body
  • 3 shots of people (I took a lot more, but my candid people photography leaves a lot to be desired)
  • 3 shots of computers
  • 3 fiber related shots
  • 7 weather/nature related shots
  • And, surprise, suprise - 8 food shots

I am sure most of you are not surprised that I ended up with so many food shots in my line up. However, I bet you would be surprised if I said I tried as best I could to mix it up. Originally I had only wanted to use one food shot per week. My food shots ended up being my fall backs when other shots just were not up to public viewing standards. Yes despite the copious number of pictures upload to Flickr there are many, many photos that don’t get seen by anyone other than me (and occasionally DH if he is rummaging through the server looking for cheese photos for his blog).

My lack of focus this month in 365 has made the 007 Snap a Dozen Days a bit of a challenge. When I think back on January I think of friends and food. January started off enjoying wonderful food made by DH’s family. I think every weekend we have had people over at least one time, if not three. There were Friday night dinners and Sunday afternoon fikas many of the weekends. It seems filling our table with good food to feed to our friends and family was a wonderful way to ease post-holiday let downs and fight the long winter nights. This year the gloom of January has been much strong than in years past, but the warmth in our home has been much stronger as well.

Since most of my friend pictures are boring shots of people sitting around our dining room table with a revolving cast of characters, it seems the most fitting of photo sets for 007 is that of the food we have shared with everyone this month…

Two Days Premature…

My New MacBook Mosaic

Right now it is a bit of a love/hate relationship. I love the aesthetic and a lot of the usability details Apple really pays attention to. But it is taking some getting used to. I think it will be a bit of a bumpy road to traverse here for a while. Especially since I’ll need to be bouncing back and forth between the laptops for a while while we save up (and wait for the upcoming new versions) for my software packages. There are many things I can’t do on the MacBook right now - photo editing, pattern paste-up, etc. Also, since the laptop showed up two days earlier than expected I don’t have everything all organized to port over from the Vaio to the MacBook - bookmarks, e-mail address book, Sage RSS Subscriptions, etc.

Please excuse me if I’m a tad bit quiet and absent while I throw some more paint on the walls and maybe hang a few pictures and basically get used to the new floorplan… My plan is to do all blog writing/reading and Internet stuff on the MacBook as soon as possible and only use the Vaio for the photo editing and pattern creating etc. I hope that will facilitate the relationship balancing more towards the love side than the hate side!

1. Good Mail Day!, 2. It’s Crowning!, 3. What is it?, 4. This is what it is!, 5. Pretty Packaging, 6. Details, 7. The Pieces and Parts, 8. Moving In, 9. Hanging the Pictures

Meme Monday…

Filed under: Follow the Flock — Kristi at 4:10 am on Monday, January 29, 2007

Since pain levels have skyrocketed in the last week, making me lean on muscle relaxers that make me very drowsy there has not been much in the way of knitting or spinning. This included Friday Night Spinners. Things are slightly improved now, perhaps due to having DH around to do things for me like carry in the groceriers. They should improve more later in the week as I see my doctor tomorrow and hopefully she’ll move me back to some meds that don’t make me so sleepy and dopey.

In the meantime, I thought I’d jump on the wallpaper posting bandwagon that was started by Kat. Below is my current wallpaper…

Minnesota Frosty Sunrise 2

You might recognize it from my holiday posts. It was taken just outside of Pipestone, MN at a wayside rest on the morning of the 23rd of December.

I’m torn though, I think this one would make a great desktop wallpaper as well…

Shaeffer Yarns Anne

But, I’m just not ready yet to say goodbye to the photo from Minnesota. Perhaps the snowy yarn will become the wallpaper on my new computer when that arrives. Yes, later this week my new laptop should arrive. I’ll keep you in suspence as to which direction I went. Either way, now it is time to start saving pennies to bring my software up to date out of the blackages… *sigh*

Grandma's Sewing Machine

One of the ghosts that haunted me while staying in gradma’s mostly emptied house over the holidays… The first sewing machine I used.

I have no recollection of what I was making when I first used this machine, but I remember right where it sat in the basement and recall the odd contortions I had to do to run the pedal and sew at the same time.

Emma’s Post

Emma

Hey, it is Emma here today. Mom is walking around the house very slowly and taking a lot of little orange oblong pills and an occasional little round peach colored pill. She is also in bed with some thing that generates heat and inviting me up into the bed much more than normal. The computer is there with her, but she says she isn’t very “with it” and said I could do the blog post today.

She has been grumbling all week because Bloglines isn’t picking her up unless she goes and manually pings her blog even though she has everything set up to ping them when she posts. She is not very happy with Bloglines right now and is quite glad she has not been using them for the last year or so.

She is also wandering around mumbling unrelated words. I think it has something to do with all the comments she got on Tuesday’s post. She is enjoying visiting all the new to her blogs from those who came out of the woodwork. It keeps her busy. Though she says she can’t really respond to all those comments right now. She seems really concerned about not being “with it.” In fact, she hasn’t been spinning or knitting either and between you and me, it makes her kind of grumpy.

Cyclops DrewLastly, today is my dad’s birthday (he’s been making cheese again, you should click that link to hear more about it and leave comments)! I think mom is holding off taking some of the meds so she can have a nice lunch with him today. I know she is looking forward to him opening his gifts this evening. One of the gifts we’ve had at the house for almost a year. It is from my grandma and grandpa Schueler.

Well, it is time for my morning nap. I’m going to lay on my own bed because it is in the sunshine in the morning and I like it that way!
