10 on Tuesday: 10 Things Seen from My Fav Knitting Spot
Well, normally I’d show you pics of what I can see. However, the house is in a state of deconstruction. DH is ripping out the horrendously installed tiled floor in the kitchen and dining room so there is dust from the grout and cement board on absolutely everything. And it is a loosing battle that isn’t worth fighting until all the deconstruction is complete. Frankly, it may wait until the installation is complete. Anyway, here is a look at one of my favorite places to knit in the winter (from a year or two ago). So, you’ll get a few I can find in the archives where I can, but no new pics.
1. Games, lots of board games! There are even more that have come up from the basement and joined those you can see in the photo above. Eventually there will be bookcases in the living room where they can live. And, mom and dad gave us Bananagrams for Christmas too, so that has joined the stack.
2. The 10-Point star light. Yes, the star light is still up. We keep it up until Fat Tuesday as a symbol of the coming lighter and brighter days.
3. Today, I can still see snow out the window from Friday’s storm. Fort Collins didn’t get hit too bad. I think we probably had less than a foot when all was said and done.
4. Plants! Lots of green plants, which make my heart sing. Much of Colorado is brown. We don’t tend to have snow cover for too long at a time so then it is dormant, brown grass. Then in the summer we often are quite dry and unless really irrigated grass is brown. So having an oasis of green plants in the house is good. Soon, they’ll need to shuffled to other locations to make room for seedlings.
5. Books - only a very small bit of our collected works. The shelf in front of the window houses our gardening books and a couple photo albums and sometimes library books.
6. Grandma’s Embroidery - this is a piece of needlework I was lucky enough to get after she passed. All the household stuff was to go to the daughters. The men got the farm stuff. So it was wonderful when a few things were shared with my sister and I. Grandma was almost a second mother for us since we grew up across the road from her.
7. Bookshelf Stereo - we have a small bookshelf stereo set up on the hearth until we have bookcases. Mostly I listen to the radio on it, but sometimes I listen to an iPod or my iPhone on it.
8. MIL’s Craftsmen Stained Glass Lamp - well, actually MIL made the shade and FIL made the body out of wood. It is a gorgeous lamp and one we enjoy greatly. It doesn’t shed light on my knitting area (unless I decided to switch up chairs). But the amber glass brings a certain warmth to the room when it is lit.
9. The peach tree we planted in our front yard - I have to have *really* good posture to see it yet from the rocking chair, but it is there, right out the window. I’m looking forward to a good chunk of lawn out there being turned into a plant bed this spring with a mix of edible perennials.
10. An HD flat screen monitor hooked up to a blue-ray player - we got a HD computer monitor and hooked it up to a blue-ray player that will stream NetFlix in the living room as kind of a second TV. We talked about being able to move it around if we were sick or I was laid up with a pain flare, but we’ve never done so. Mostly it gets used by me though. There are times I want some video to keep me company while knitting but I also want some daylight rather than hiding down in the basement.
What sights do you have from your favorite knitting spot?
