FO Sicks and an SIP

Close Look at Manly Trekking SIPYes, the first Trekking socks are complete (a better FO report on Friday of course). I also cast on for another pair of Trekking seeing as how we’ll be doing a record Trek to Minneapolis this weekend. I have to have Trekking socks on the needles don’t I? This pair is for DH. Two for (or 2.5) for me and one for DH :-)
I do have a little contest up my sleeve. The first pair of Trekking, the completed ones (well the others will need a name too, so if you have inspiration for that as well please feel free), need a name. Some details you might like to know when naming them include the fact that one sock all the mini cables twist to the right and on the other sock they all twist to the left. There are twist all around the sock for about two inches at the top and over the top of the sock just before the toe decreases begin. I like naming my socks after places, though for the right name that can be overlooked (especially since I do have Dimple and Heatwave which are not places). If you provide the name for the new socks or a name that sparks the new name you’ll get a copy of the pattern for free! You have today and tomorrow, as I hope to have a new name to announce in my FO Friday post.

Also, for those musically inclined, what are your top five road trip songs? I’m prepping the iPod for the trip. We’ve ordered a charger and now I just have to decide what 4 GB of music I want to take with and I think I’ve decided to splurge with a *few* iTunes purchases so there is some fresh stuff on there. This part isn’t an official contest, but I may give away a few more of the new pattern if your selections turn me onto someone new I hadn’t really listened to or heard of before.

Tornado or Hurricane socks. Hurricane is a place in Utah, although they insist it’s pronounced “Hur-kin”. :)

They’re lovely!

Rolling Ridge socks. I think they look like a rolling ridge. Lovely pattern BTW. Also, how fast were you planning on going? One piece I love on the road is Gimme Some Lovin. I think it’s by the Spencer Davis Group with Stevie Winwood on vocals. Does that give you an idea of my age?

Anything by Tom Petty is good for road trips. I especially like the B52’s for vacations, they make everything more fun.

And those socks are beautious. That yarn really compliments the cable.

Love the socks!!
I’m into folk and blue grass. James McMurtry and Robert Earl Keen are fun to listen to.

Road trip music, eh? I like Gordon Lightfoot. A. Lot. Also, some good Stevie Ray Vaughn, perhaps some showtunes like Wicked or Spamalot. And then you need some stuff to sing along to like The Ramones. How’s that?

Favorite road trip songs, anything by the Bare Naked Ladies. Nothing specific, but I love their CD’s, and every time I hear them, I think road trip.

I like Switchbacks for the socks. I don’t know why, it just popped into my head. I listen to country music, so I won’t subject you to my music suggestions ;-)

For the socks, “Balance.” Hey, we all need it! I’m embarassed to admit what my road music is. I’ll just keep that to myself.

Hmm, I Can’t Drive 55 is an all time favorite road trip song, as is anything by AC/DC, but since that might not be your cup of tea, I like Closer to FIne by the Indigo Girls since I usually feel better the closer I get to my destination. :)

And Susanne got to my idea first! That looks like the Spiral rib pattern, You could always call them Twister, or F5 like the tornado scale. Or water spout, like the water tornados…

Ok, it would help if I read the post a little better. I was trying to name the ones in progress. Umm, D’OH! I’m not with it today! :)

For the socks, Devil’s Gulch. Reminds me of the switchbacks in the Big Thompson.

Spiral Jetty socks. http://www.spiraljetty.org/

Or Iron Mountain socks, after the spiraling Iron Mountain Road in the Black Hills. http://www.byways.org/browse/byways/2459/photos.html?pub_id=10681&order_no=2&display_mode=single

Hmm, road music. Gear Daddies “Dream Vacation,” Bob Seger “Turn the Page,” “State Trooper” - everyone seems to have covered this song - Steve Earle, the Cowboy Junkies, Dar Williams as “Highway Patrolman”…

I like Devil’s Gulch, too - and weren’t they on your mind during EPWM? Road music? Looking thru my road music: Pat Benatar, U2, Tracy Chapman, INXS and Jackopierce (Finest Hour) and, wait! Linda Perry - (try 4 Nonblondes - bigger, better, faster, more). Umm…that’s probably enough.

Having just returned from a trip to Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Rocky Mt. Nat. Park, I would suggest “Moraine” as the name for your socks. Your socks seem to have lateral, terminal, and interlobate moraine; a beautiful example of geomorphology!

As for road trip songs, I have to suggest 3 whole albums: “Stadium Arcadium” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, the soundtrack from “Cars” (the recent Disney movie about cute cars), and “Roadtrip” by Cravin’ Dogs. Have a great & safe Trek!

Socks - how about Sturgis?

Music? I agree with the BNL suggestion - totally! But I have to say, NO road trip is complete without “Radar Love” by Golden Earring.
