Saturday’s Fun…

Filed under: Fibery Friends — Kristi at 6:00 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2006

One of our SnB gals is expecting in December. We decided to throw her shower here in October so it wouldn’t get all lost in the rush of holiday stuff. On Saturday my rather small house held nine guests and a 7 week old baby. I did the organizing, but the SnB gals all pitched in with food and supplies and such .

We had a great spread of food with wonderful banana walnut muffins from Kerrilyn, great pumpkin bread from Ashley (who knows I’m a pumpkin freak) as well as some unique ginger wasabi preserves and some cheese, Linsey brought cups and bread and cheese, Anita brought an unusual and awesome cous cous salad, madelines, brownies, and 7-layer bars (or magic bars), Hannah brought a veggie tray with dip, I provided spiced hot apple cider, some spiced pecans, and my chicken salad. I’m afraid we all dug in too quick and I didn’t get any pictures, but trust me, your mouth would be drooling uncontrollably if I had! As a group, not only do we know how to bitch, laugh, and cry with each other, but we all sure know how to cook/bake and eat together too!

I put together baby themed Outburst and Scattergories. We only played Outburst, but I think everyone had fun. Though the teams were kind of stacked with all the prior mommies on one team and all the non-mommies on another. Then, it seemed like the cards also really liked the mommies. But it was fun and I got a lot of ribbing for some items I listed in certain categories as I guess they were uniquely Minnesotan or something (mom-to-be is originaly from Iowa so I can’t even say it’s a upper mid-west thing). The teasing was all in good fun though.

After Amanda opened her gifts which were a nice mix of handmade and store bought we all went out to the backyard where we freezer paper-stenciled a bunch of onesies. I had previously stenciled 5 of them as examples and to use as the meager decoration for the event. Then I showed those new to freezer paper stenciling how to do so.

So that people weren’t on the spot too much I had a bunch of pre-drawn stencils ready to be cut out as well as blank pieces for people to draw thier own stencils. I think everyone really enjoyed it, several painted two onesies. In fact, some of us thought maybe we should get together and paint shirts for ourselves! Some of my other friends who saw the onesies taking over my living room thought that sounded like a great party idea too, LOL!

In the end, there were 18 onesies strewn around the non-seating horizontal surfaces in my living room. It looked like Babies R Us had moved in, LOL!

If you click on the image below you can read the notes at Flickr to see who stenciled and drew which designs…

I think we did our job in dressing the new baby and instilling a good sense of humor, LOL! Now I just need to iron all of these and give them a wash for the new mom.

[…] Next weekend several of us from SnB will be getting together to freezer paper stencil t-shirts and bags and such for ourselves since we had so much fun with onesies this fall. Since Ashley’s birthday will soon follow that gathering I’m going to make some fun spring-time cupcakes next weekend for all of us. It should be fun. […]

Is there a “how-to” for freezer paper stenciling. Where do I get the stencils? I’m hosting a baby shower and this is too cool.
Thanks!

What a creative baby shower party! Why didn’t I think about using baby onesies to decorate the room? My sister will like your photos as she’s expecting to have a baby on July and we’re planning a baby shower for her. I also find some creative homemade baby shower party favor ideas and I think everyone will love it!

Can you tell me where you found all the images? I’m new to the freezer paper stencil thing and haven’t quite figured that part out yet. Thanks!
