FO: Ribs and Lace Tank
Pattern: Ribs and Lace Tank, Interweave Knits Spring 2007
Designer: Jodi Green
Size: 46″ or 2nd Largest
Yarn: 4 skein (with 1.3 oz left over) Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, Olive (seconds)
Changes: Left out one repeat of first lace pattern and adjusted all measurements prior to ribbing by 2.5 inches to compensate.
Recipient: Me :-)
Dates Worked: March 16 - March 25, plus blocking and dry time
Notes: This was an enjoyable and easy knit. The beginning part is on such large needles that you barely blink and it is done. It is slightly painful to move to the small needles and slower to knit ribbing, but that is relieved a bit by the interesting shaping that takes place through most of the ribbed section. I know there has been a lot of controversy about the “bullseye boobs” but I thought it clever to turn the shaping into a design feature. That was what drew me to knit it in the first place. On me, I don’t think it looks like a bullseye. Different tank sizes in combination with different cup sizes may cause your mileage to vary of course.
I am very glad I took out the one repeat of lace, as I got the stated measurement post-blocking with the growth of the yarn following washing, despite the fact that my swatches did not lengthen significantly. I am also thinking I will want to go back and shorten each strap by maybe 1/2 inch or so as they like to slip down when I am seated.
The tank doesn’t provide as much coverage as I would like. I won’t be able to wear it as a tank top unless I wear another tank top beneath it. Even with the ribbing stretched out a fair bit it doesn’t provide bra coverage. The bra strap would show unless I got a low back version, but the sides of the cups would also show. But, overall I am very pleased with my first real garment for myself!
I also got a *ton* of comments on it at the Tattered Cover last Thursday. I think a lot of them were more about the fact that the magazine was the current one and I had an FO from it. Some of the comments were about how it looked on me, which made me feel good.
