A Rocky Start to My Estes Weekend…
Friday of course the pile o’rock was dumped in our driveway and DH spent much of his day dealing with that. Late in the evening I popped over to our local supermarket to pick up some extra batteries for the point and shoot camera and some other household essentials. On the way back home it seemed as though my brake lights were out. I had Drew come out and check them and sure enough, I had no brake lights. We kind of fiddled with some fuses to make sure they were seated okay and that was about all we good do at 10pm in a dark driveway.
I had planned to take off between 7 and 7:30am on Saturday, however the garage doesn’t open until 7:30am of course. So I knew I’d miss out on the early arrival deals that some booths have. Now, in theory DH was going to be moving rock and getting landscape timbers with a friend who has a pick-up and didn’t need his car. But, the Jetta had spent Friday in the shop getting routine maintenance and looking at the brakes as they had started to intermittently act up. It was determined that his brake trouble was a warped rotor and he could continue to drive it as is. But I wasn’t feeling too confident in taking it up to Estes and back. I really wanted to call Will and ask, “Would YOU drive it to Estes and back? Would you let your wife do so?” We didn’t bother him on his weekend, but it was very tempting. Not to mention I’m not that comfortable driving Drew’s vehicle because the last time I drove it was in December when we went out to Minnesota for Christmas and prior to that was last July when we also drove to Minnesota.
We contemplated renting a car for the day, but because it was Saturday it would be a rental for the entire weekend and they didn’t open until 8:30am. I did finally end up taking the Jetta and everything went peachy. But it was one heck of an adventure just to get up there before the blogger meet-up and I only just barely made it.
The meet-up was less crazy than last year. There weren’t quite as many there and many I had met previously. But I was much less of a wall flower than last year which was good. I wore a shirt with “Fiber Fool” and my sheep design in orange on it so I couldn’t really be missed, LOL!
Here are Margene, Jane, Michelle, part of Chris, and Michaele of Knitty Professor’s back.
Left to Right: Ellen, Lisa, and Linda. Behind them is Jenifer and Erin and Margene’s right arm.
The Queen of Diamonds socks were a hit too!
Here is Laura admiring them.
And Marissa poses with them for me.
Mim decided to start her very own fashion trend!
Following the meet-up a group of us went to lunch at a little cafe near the Safeway.
There was plenty of animal gazing and fiber buying, but I’ll save that for now as this post is getting a bit long. But stay tuned!
