My Days…

Filed under: Designing — Kristi at 6:40 am on Monday, February 11, 2008

Most of my days since about Christmas have revolved around this picture… Lots and lots of utilitarian, fairly economically priced wool yarn. What have I been knitting? Lots of swatches using Cascade 220! Hopefully I’ll be getting some word back on some of the swatch work in the coming weeks.

I am so glad I had learned to embrace and appreciate the task of swatching before all this happened though. I had come to realize many months ago that swatching can germinate new ideas or help you discover areas for improvement etc. That has made this process of knitting for hours and hours on things that will never be an FO easier to bear.

Oh my… all that swatch knitting would really wear me down. I’m glad you have such a good attitude about swatching!

When I realized a swatch *was* a finished object, my attitude toward swatching changed dramatically. I think of swatches like a batch of test cookies, except the swatch doesn’t just vanish, never to be seen again!

Test cookies! Awesome. I actually keep a drawer in my yarn closet (shut up. I’m not crazy.) just for my swatches. I hope you’re enjoying them!

Swatching may not be the most exciting type of knitting but at least it’s colorful.

I keep my swatches but I always forget to label them. You have a much better attitude about the swatching than I do.

Wow. That’s a lot of swatching. Probably more swatching than I have ever done.

It’s a lot more fun to see what someone else is swatching or to play with swatches than to do an actual gauge swatch for an already charted pattern for some odd reason.

But wow, looks like fun! Paint with yarn.

Well I hope all your swatching comes to fruition. I don’t love the swatch but it’s a necessary evil if you don’t want to knit a tent :)

Ah, the forbidden love of a knitter and swatching! I’m glad you’ve embraced it and you are no longer reticent. A lesson for us all.

What a lovely pile of wool! If I’m not doing a simple gauge swatch, my swatches tend to… morph. They often become an odd combination of stitches next to, or appended to, each other. Some very odd shapes can come of it! LOL

When do we get to see swatches?!

I really like that picture! Swatching, on the other hand, bleh. Maybe someday I’ll have a better attitude towards the swatch…
