Celebrations
After last year’s disaster of a birthday I decided to take my birthday into my own hands this year. On Saturday evening Amanda, Ashley and I got together for another Ladies’ Meat Night, but this time we combined it with an early birthday celebration and went out to eat at a great steak place in town. It was fabulous! Even the asparagus and potatoes!
Not only did they unexpectedly treat me, but Ashley also gave me some fabulous yarn! It’s Chasing Rainbows Dyeworks Superwash Willow. It’s a superwash merino and tencel blend sock yarn. This colorway is Crocus. I can see when I get it knit up those socks will be in heavy rotatation as the yarn will go well with denim and khaki and easily slips into my wardrobe without much trouble. It has made one decision a bit harder.
Tomorrow morning I’ll be on a shuttle to DIA and heading home to celebrate with my *whole* family for the first time since I moved here in 1999! I’ll be arriving a day late, but one should celebrate their birthday for a whole month, right? :-) I’m going for ten days. There aren’t really any big plans except on the night before my return when we go see Church Basement Ladies II and stay in the metro overnight. Otherwise it’ll just be family time and getting my mom’s laptop all updated on the software and perhaps get some more audio books burned to CD and see if I can train her on how to do that and use iTunes with her screen reading software.
I’m sure you’re wondering how Ashley’s gift is making things difficult? I was planning on taking along some Lifestyle that I couldn’t resist after Amanda knit a coupe pairs of socks from it. I thought it would be perfect to take along as I could surely finish a pair of plain socks (would you believe me if I told you that I’ve never knit a plain stockinette sock before?) at that heavier weight in ten days. And, as a bonus it would not be work related knitting. But Ashley’s yarn is sooo gorgeous and I think a perfect match to a design I have on paper and I want to cast-on NOW! However, that would me I was taking work with me on the trip. And after months of marathon deadline knitting I was looking forward to some selfish knitting. Not that these socks won’t be mine to wear, but there would be a need to take notes and such while knitting them. If only all decisions in life were so difficult, huh? ;-)
As is usual when I go back to the farm, Internet access will be sparse and unpredictable so do not expect speedy replies to e-mails and blog posts will be sporadic at best (like that hasn’t been the norm since the beginning on the year).
