10 on Tuesday: 10 Movies You’d Like to See in the Theater

Barbed Wire Hoarfrost with Cows Revisited

With our recent snow and my massive improvement in post-processing, especially retaining color saturation in the warmer tones when prepping for the web I just had to revisit this photo from my last trip to Minnesota. It’s a subtle difference, but I like that I was able to retain the glow of the frost covered woods from the low winter/morning sun. You can see my original edit here. Since I pretty much can’t post without including a photo I thought I’d share it today even though it doesn’t relate to today’s 10 on Tuesday topic in the least :-)

This week’s topic is another challenging one for me. I haven’t been to the movie theater since I fell asleep at Sherlock Holmes just days before the in-laws descended upon our house for Christmas last year. I’m mostly drawn to fluff romantic comedies these days which really don’t need the big screen for maximum enjoyment and are often not at the top of DH’s list of movies to watch (and his picks are not at the top of my list either). The first two on the list are obvious…

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - of course this is on the list. I don’t know when we’ll go. We’ve gone to the midnight showings of past Harry Potter films, but it is always a struggle for me to stay awake without knitting in my hands that late at night.
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - a bit in the future yet, but I’m pretty positive we’ll see it in the theater.
3. Burlesque - I *loved* Moulin Rouge! on the big screen, all the dancing and gorgeous costumes so I expect this one will have a bit greater impact on the big screen.

Okay, three and I’m kind of stuck. Well, I suppose there are a few classics that might be more entertaining on a big screen…

4. North by Northwest - some of the action scenes in that I’m sure would be thrilling on a larger screen than our little TV.
5. Rebecca may be another Hitchcock I enjoy that would make a greater impact in the theater.
6. For the costuming alone, I’m sure Gone with the Wind would be a great sight on the big screen.

And one romantic comedy that I’d really like to see that is currently in the theaters…
7. While I suspect there is nothing to be gained seeing Life as We Know It in the theater aside from more people laughing with you which can make a movie even funnier and more enjoyable, I’d like to see it.

I think I’m tapped. Having not been to the theater in so long and not generally seeing commercials I’m really out of the loop of what’s playing for the most part. So I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of you all have on your lists and maybe mine will be flushed out by the end of the day!

Carole is running 10 on Tuesday if you want to play along or just see what other, more exciting people are looking forward to seeing in the theater.

I picked all oldies for my list — epics and musicals and even a fun Disney flick — for the memories, or because I missed them on the big screen altogether.

Great list! I’m still debating about a midnight showing, it would be a last minute decision if we did it!

I also had Harry Potter and Gone With The Wind on my list! I forgot about Burlesque — might have to add that one to mine :) Just visiting from 10 on Tuesday!

I’d never be able to stay awake for a midnight showing, even with Harry Potter. And I absolutely love Rebecca!

I’ve been excited about Burlesque too - and I haven’t seen any ads/commercials for it at all. You know what might be fun - a group of us ladies could go…and dress up/make up for the occasion? It’d be sort of fun/funny to do desert or something ahead of time too so we could show off our glam;-)

My list was all oldies. Other than Harry Potter, I have no idea what is playing.

I’m keen on Burlesque, too. Love Rebecca and NbyNW, One of my favorite old flicks is Wuthering Heights…I’d love to see it on the big screen. And the Ghost and Mrs. Muir…lovelovelove that movie!! They just don’t make ‘em like they used to!! ;)

I forgot to add…I do see a subtle difference in the warmth of this image compared to the first time around. Nice…the frost seems to pop, too…it’s a great shot!

Thanks! I am not such a movie buff, and don’t keep up well enough, but I agree… some things are just better on the big screen. I especially love the detail of your photo:)

Great photo! I kind of read the prompt as “what would you like to see someone make a movie about,” which is a very different question! I’d like to see a movie made about a fiber artist who becomes the toast of the fine art world. Maybe that would be the sci-fi/fantasy genre :-)

I have never been a big movie fanatic. I never am more a fan of reading a book about the movie if there is one.

I’ll be honest. I’d probably pick something flamboyant, something old, or something action. With larger screen tvs, (and the cost of movies!) I think we tended to watch things at home more often than in the theater these days.

I seem to reserve the big screen for the big movies:
Harry Potter, of course, but also Lord of the Rings. And epics - Gone With the Wind, Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa, Dr Zhivago, Camelot, Hawaii, and even Australia and Pearl Harbor.
But - as for current movies to see in the theater - I think Harry Potter would have to be it.
