Another FO! My Fidge!
Can we tell that right now I have the attention span of a four year old hopped up on soda and Halloween candy? I swear I’m not hopped up on soda (well, not the caffeinated variety) or Halloween candy (I plead the 5th if you ask about pumpkin baked goods). But last week when I was at My Sister Knits I decided to knit my mom their version of Pidge. It was one of the best ones I’ve seen out there and they were giving it away with the purchase of yarn. I thought it would be nice to have one to go with my no-swatch beret and all I found that
would add color to my charcoal gray pea coat was also Lorna’s Laces Douglas Fir, but in Bulky Superwash. I accidently didn’t pick up a copy of the pattern, but I knew the main stitch pattern and the stitch counts and buttonholes were not going to work for bulky anyway, so Thursday and Friday I swatch and frog trying to find the right combo of stitch count and needle size. It was done in no time and is super soft and warm. It’ll be the perfect accessory to fill that v-neck of my pea coats.
Pattern: Modified Neck Cozy from My Sister Knits, which I call Fidge (aka Fake Pidge)
Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Bulky, Douglas Fir (I had 24 gm left over)
Needles: US11 Turbo
Dimension: ~5 X 27 inches
Mods: I changed the stitch count to fit the bulky yarn and allow slipped stitches on each side for a cleaner look. I also chose to use a crochet cast-on so that the ends would match better when they are so close together.
Notes: Next time I would make the buttonholes a bit smaller for this sized button. I might also just consider not using buttonholes, but a shawl stick or pin instead. Other than that, I love it. It was an economical and quick knit, yet not too terribly boring. I think this version (which is ribbed, BTW) is one of the better non-loom knit knock off patterns I’ve seen so far. And, for this bulky of a yarn you wouldn’t want to double-knit (the other close version) it or loom it. It would be much too thick and inflexible to wrap nicely around the neck.
I hope those in the US have a wonderful holiday tomorrow! If you still need a dessert idea, don’t forget about the holiday cobbler recipe that was such a huge hit last year. Then come back on Friday for a Black Friday Sale. You won’t want to miss it!
