ECF: Gardening Season Approacheth

Filed under: In the Dirt — Kristi at 2:09 pm on Friday, February 8, 2008

After a fantastic breakfast at my fav breakfast location we hit one of the local nurseries for seeds. This weekend, amongst knitting and further garden reading (we’re looking at doing a lot of companion planting to aid in pest management) we’ll be starting to make our starter pots with our handy dandy pot maker and getting ready to start some of our seeds. Last weekend while taking the weekend off from knitting we started sketching out what and where to plant things. This planning stage is kind of fun!

This year I’m going to try using a Ravelry-esque website to track our garden progress - MyFolia. You can join in on the fun as well!

I’m sitting here looking outside and your post title made me chuckle. Yup, this is the time to start indoor sowing, but your enthusiasm is so cute (and contagious).

I was just thinking spring must be coming soon - A) Seed packets for sale at the grocery store, B) blonde horse is shedding like a wild man.

My garden never looks as good as it does in my imagination in the middle of Feb….

Thanks for the link!

Wow, it can’t possibly be time to start planting yet. I admire your organization and forethought. I’m not sure that I have enough spare brain cells for that but I will certainly be gardening again this year.

You are thinking about spring already? *sniff* I went and signed up for MyFolia. It doesn’t seem to be as fleshed out as ravelry, huh?

Your fav breakfast place?! So, you wouldn’t by chance be interested in making another trip there this week…my last week of freedom;-) My treat…we’ll need to make it a grand send off weekend - good thing we’ve already got that covered with Hannah.

I’m impressed that there is a Ravelry-esque gardening site. I guess I’d be unimpressed if there weren’t since it seems like gardening is a bigger/more legit hobby than knitting (at least to outside observation).

I can’t wait for Spring. We were looking at trumpet vines to plant in the yard this year.

Marigolds planted in rings around things, like your veggie garden, help keep gophers away. The roots taste bad. They can help keep some of the flying insects away, too. Sometimes. Have fun with your magical seeds. :-)
