Quixotic Scrabbler Blank Hand Bound Journal
This whimsical 7 X 7 inch hand bound journal was inspired by the vintage photograph of this mysterious woman found amongst my family's treasures. Since this woman likely resided in rural Minnesota in pioneering times I felt she was probably a bit quixotic.
The back of the journal also contains enhancements with acrylic paint and transfers of dictionary definitions of some higher than average scoring words. Both journal covers have been seal with several coats of acrylic medium and UV-resistant varnish in a matte finish.
The 96 pages of taupe colored Canson MiTienes paper is bound using an eleborate technique which requires 6 individual strands of waxed linen thread and ten needles. Because of the multiple stands of thread the book will stay bound for generations. Though the stitching looks decorative it also allows the book to lie flat when opened making it easy to work in. The MiTienes paper holds up well to most mediums including pastels, colored pencil, collage, and even light watercolor washes. |
