One Mitten Down…

12/2/2004

After a couple false starts, I finally got the first convertible mitten done for my mom. Yes, I could not get myself to start on her hat :-/ But, I think now that I have one mitten down and know it took me only two days I’ll be able to settle down and do her hat.

There it is both closed and open. I’m planning on making a hat band from that same fluffy mix of novelty yarns. They coordinate with this funky scarf my grandmother bought her last year that looks to me like it was the dense eyelash yarn like Boa or something similar made into the freeform lace. This yarn was laid out on a sticky, watersoluble stabilizer, it was sewn over and then the stabilzer disolved. It is not woven, it is sewn together. I’ve seen such thing done with great ribbons and lace, but not with eyelash yarns. It’s really neat.

This mitten was a HUGE hit at game night last night. I have to admit I’m rather happy with it since I flew by the seat of my pants on it :-) It fits me pretty perfectly, though a touch long in the mitten section. But, my mom has a thinner and longer hand. It fit our friend Tam, but I’m still worried that the thumb is a bit short so I think I’m going to pull that out down to before the decrease and knit a couple more rows before decreasing. What I’m not looking forward to is trying to find the ends in that black knitting! :-O I shouldn’t have woven in the ends on that, but I did those as I went along so it wasn’t such a pain.

I’m really itching to get started on my own Christmas stocking. Though that isn’t so important now that DH can’t locate his that was sent home with us last year (his parents knew they were retiring in the summer and would be putting the house up for sale). But, I have this great design in my head and I want to get on with it, LOL! Of course I haven’t found the right yarn for it yet though… I think I’ll probably have to get that at Woolen Treasures, but that is just a guess…

I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! I must make that boring black bucket hat! :-}
