IK Felt 2008 in the Original Mitered Diamond Bag

The yarn shops in my area have had the 2008 edition of IK Felt available for almost two weeks now. But, today is the official newsstand date so the magazine should be found at most bookstores that carry Interweave Knits and Spin Off for those without a nearby LYS. Last year this special issue sold out quite quickly.

Mitered Diamond Bag MosaicAs I had posted earlier, I have a pattern in this issue. On page 20 is the Mitered Diamond Bag. In looking through my copy of the magazine it came to my attention that there is a small error that was introduced during the editing process. It is minor and some may or may not notice it. The fifth line down on page 22 is the start of a sentence that should not be there - “Seam all corresponding edges tog - A edge to A edge, G edge to G edge, and so on.” The bag is constructed in such a way to minimize seaming and there are only two short seams to complete which were in the instructions prior to this extra sentence. Felt staff have had this brought to their attention and there should be an official errata posted on the page for this issue soon.

Mitered Diamond BagIf you are in northern Colorado I will be teaching two sessions of classes at My Sister Knits in Fort Collins. The weekend class starts this Saturday, September 13th. There will be a second weekday session in later October. Sign ups for both sessions are currently open. Please call My Sister Knits at at (970) 407-1461 to reserve your space. Once the issue is sold out, due to contractual agreements, I will be unable to teach the class again until this time next year, so don’t put off signing up or you could wait a long time. For more info on my classes at any time, check out the Fiber Arts Classes link in the upper right of any blog page. There is also a mailing list that sends out reminders usually no more than once a month.

Guided By Love Errata

Filed under: Socks, Knitting Patterns, Errata — Kristi at 1:09 am on Monday, June 30, 2008

Unfortunately, errata happens from time to time. The following are for Guided By Love. If your PDF reads “ver 1.0″ in the lower right corner of the pages you will want to make the changes listed below. There are currently two files residing on Ravelry. If you are purchasing the pattern you’ll want the one with “ver1.1″ in the file name and in the lower right corner of the pages.

To the Abbreviations section, add:
kwise - knitwise, as if to knit
pwise - purlwise, as if to purl
w&t (right side) - bring yarn between ndls from back to front, slip st kwise, bring yarn back to original position (back) and slip wrapped st back to left needle pwise. Turn.
w&t (wrong side) - bring yarn between ndls from front to back, slip st pwise, bring yarn back to original (front) position and slip wrapped st back to left needle pwise. Turn.

For clarification, to the end of Sock One (right) Heel Set Up, add:
[ndl1: 13 (14, 15, 16) sts, mrkr, 19 (21, 23, 25) sts, 9 paw print panel sts, mrkr, 13 (14, 15, 16) sts; ndl2: 29 (31, 33, 35)]

Replace Sock Two Heel Set Up Round with:
Sock Two Heel Set Up Round: Place mrkrs as indicated, removing old ones as you reach them. K4 (5, 6, 7), pm, k13 (14, 15, 16) onto ndl 1. Knit next 29 (31, 33, 35) sts onto ndl 2. Slip rem sts on ndl2 to ndl 1, placing mrkr to right of paw print panel. The working yarn should now be at the end of ndl 2 which now holds the heel/sole sts. [ndl1: 13 (14, 15, 16) sts, mrkr, 9 paw print panel sts, 19 (21, 23, 25) sts, mrkr, 13 (14, 15, 16) sts; ndl2: 29 (31, 33, 35)]

In the Heel section, replace Row 5 (RS) with:
Row 5 (RS): *Sl1, k1; rep from * to to 1st wrapped st. **Cw; rep from * until 1 wrapped st remains, cw/ssk, turn.

ETA 07/13/2008

If you have ver 1.0 or 1.1

Changes are indicated by bolding. In most cases it is for further clarification on marker placement.

Gusset Sock One (right)
Rnd 3: Knit to mrkr, sl mrkr, k1, LLinc, k1, LRinc, k1, sl mrkr, continue paw print panel over next 9 sts, k to end of rnd.
Rnd 6: Knit to mrkr, sl mrkr, k1, LLinc, k to 1 st before second marker, LRinc, k1, sl mrkr continue paw print panel over next 9 sts, k to end of rnd.

Gusset Sock Two (left)
Rnd 3: Knit to 1 st before mrkr, LRinc, k1, sl mrkr, knit through paw print panel, sl mrkr, k1, LLinc, k to end of rnd.
Rnd 6: Knit to 1 st before mrkr, LRinc, k1, sl mrkr, knit through paw print panel, sl mrkr, k1, LLinc, k to end of rnd.

As of 07/13/2008 the issue of changed PDF files getting pushed out to previous buyers is being worked on. Now, or very soon if you follow the link in your Ravelry receipt or view your “Purchases” section of Your Notebook if you are a Ravelry member it should give you the latest version. If you had previously saved a version to “Your Library” that will not be automatically updated. You will still need to reinitiate the download/save in library function through your receipt of purchase history.

As this situation should be remedied shortly I am not auto e-mailing new versions to everyone. If you are in need of a new version before the Ravelry issue is resolved, please forward your Ravelry receipt to patterns (at) designedlykristi (dot) com so I have your transaction information and I’ll send you a new link download link.

I’m a Cover Girl!

I Made the Cover!

Some of you may recall a post I made back in October about some socks I knit that I couldn’t really show you. Well, now the world can and has and will see them! They are on the cover of the Spring 2007 issue of Spin-Off Magazine!

I have already gotten some e-mails and comments from some of you with congrats as well as some very kind blog posts about the article as well. Thank you very much! I also heard back from the Spin-Off staff that someone is already knitting them! I’m flabbergasted by such quick responses. In fact, my own subscription copy hasn’t even arrived in my mailbox yet (I had a really cool photo idea in my head if it had, but finally decided I could wait no longer to share the news). The joy is bittersweet however, as we discovered there is some errata in the charts. Some lines got inadvertently cut from the Key and Chart B. If you click on the following images you can download the omitted portions. Spin-Off will have new graphics up on their web site soon as well.

Missing From Legend

In case you’d like to see the socks as I originally photographed them, without all the blurred out craziness…

I have to say, I’m beginning to wonder if I am ever going to be able to get myself to wear these socks as I do the rest of my hand knit socks. I’ve had them back for over a week and they have sat in my drawer. I smile every time I open the drawer and reach for my crappy store bought socks. The photo at the top of this post is the first time I put them on since they returned and they were on for less than 10 minutes, LOL! Perhaps in time I will get over it. This isn’t my first publication, but it is my first ever cover and my first ever knitting or spinning publication so right now I just feel like everything should be kept pristine. I haven’t even read my comp copy of the magazine. I’ve been waiting for the subscription copy to arrive already slightly beat up from going through the mail to read that. At a party on Saturday one of my friends asked me if I brought a copy along and I had to fess up to my current obsession with keeping the copy I have in pristine condition. Perhaps I should get the socks mounted with the cover of the magazine and framed, LOL!

I’m pretty sure I’m going to have another “through the roof” moment when I see it on the newsstands. I think it’ll seem a bigger deal to see it at Barnes and Noble rather than one of the LYS, but that might be awfully exciting too. If you are not a subscriber it is scheduled to be out next Tuesday, the 27th of March.
