Thankful Thursday - Another with Snow & Frost

Filed under: Thankfulness — Kristi at 2:30 am on Thursday, November 18, 2010

Now that I’m not getting washed out reds and oranges this shot was worth the effort of post-processing. I never did post the original of it back in January, it was just too ho-hum. Once this first milestone of NK is over, if you are interested in my solution to the washed out warm tone issue when sharing images on the web, remind me and I’ll share what I’ve learned.

1. I’m thankful for friends and family who are so supportive of Nourishing Knits. I have had so much help pulling this together - test and sample knitting, description writing and editing, pattern editing, copy editing, test cooking, taste testing, modeling, and sounding boards for the tiniest of details. Not the least of these helpful people is DH who is putting up with lots of delivery and dining out while I’m not finding time to cook as I try to wrap this first release.

2. My camera (thanks to DH a few years ago)! It is not only a huge tool in putting together NK, but it also provides a stimulating, yet rejuvenating break now and again. As does my back catalog of images to revisit as my skills grow :-)

3. NetFlix for the iPhone. Without it I wouldn’t have been able to fall asleep this last month. My mind would have been going 1000 miles an hour dwelling on all the to-dos. With it, I have just enough entertainment to stop the rat on the wheel in my head, but not so much (as long as I choose wisely) to keep me awake terribly long.

4. My various sizes and shapes of rice packs and TENS/EMS machine without which I could not have survived the crazy hours I’ve been spending on the computer the last few weeks.

There may be a theme here…

If things go smoothly today there may be a second post with some fun involved!

Thankful Thursday - The One With Snow

Filed under: Thankfulness — Kristi at 8:01 pm on Thursday, November 11, 2010

While I’m not participating in NaNoBloMo and it is going to kill me to keep up with all of you who are, it has sparked a few good things. One of those is Thankful Thursdays which I learned about from Carole, the fearless leader of 10 on Tuesdays these days. I already had last Thursday’s post on soap ready to go when I learned of it, but November is such a fitting month to take time to be thankful. Plus, as holiday craziness ramps up I’ll take any help I can find in looking for the positive.

So, being the follower that I am, I’m jumping in this week despite chasing my own tail. There are still a few hours left of Thursday so here we go…

1. As it is Veteran’s Day I am of course very thankful to those who have served our country in the past, present and future. I am also very thankful for their families who also are making a large sacrifice.

2. I am thankful for the first snow of the year that started late last night and continued through much of today. It is much later than many years (2 of the 11 falls I’ve spent in CO we’ve had significant accumulating snowfalls by mid-September and a normal year is considered one with snow on Halloween). This one has been light and steady and very beautiful. There is something I love about seeing the mix of seasons - autumn leaves with winter’s snow or spring’s bulbs blooming with winter’s snow. It must be the contrast. Anyway, I decided to mark the occasion and show my gratitude for our four seasons by taking a bit of time out to capture the first snowfall in images.

3. I am thankful for friends and family who have been putting up with me this past crazy year that is likely to be even crazier for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your help and support and feedback!

4. And, because this week is busy not only for me, but also for DH as we head into the uphill climb towards finals I am thankful that we both have fairly flexible schedules that allow us to find a bit of time to spend together wherever we may be able to find them. (How’s that for a run-on sentence? I’m too tired and have been on the computer far too many hours the past two days to fix it, sorry!)
