FO and EC Friday: Electric Socks Edition

Filed under: Knitting, Follow the Flock, Socks, Finished Objects, Dye-O-Rama — Kristi at 4:23 am on Friday, January 12, 2007

Pattern: My Own, based off of a pair of commercial socks I bought, though I believe this stitch pattern can be found in Sensational Knitted Socks. 72 sts, picot edge and top down.
Yarn: My Dye-O-Rama St. Lucia Yarn from Kirsten of Through the Loops
Needles: Two 16″ Sz 1 (2.5 mm) Addi Turbos
Recipient: Myself

Dye-O-Rama SocksNotes: These socks were completed on January 1, 2007, making them the first FO of the year. Though to be fair only the toe on the second sock remained to be knit. I started the final phase on our drive down to DH’s family holiday and was completed by the time we got to Castle Rock. I had forgotten my tapestry needle somehow so the socks were transferred to some bobby pins my SIL3 had in her purse and kitchnered later so that I could start a new pair of socks.

It took me a long time to knit the pair, but neither sock took long to knit. The first sock was completed July 26th, 2006. I cast-on the second sock December 23rd/24th while I was up for four hours in the middle of the night after going to bed at 6:30pm. That was the only knitting that got done on that sock until we returned home on the 27th.

I would have never in 100 years chosen this yarn from a pile at an LYS. Even though it is a favorite color combo it is much brighter than I usually go for. But, I *LOVE* these socks! They are so bright and fun. There is very nearly zero pooling or flashing (how’d you do it, Kirsten?)! It is just what the doctor ordered for this winter of weekly snow storms! I have a pair of pants that go great with them and I’m pretty sure I even have a green shirt around here to top off the ensemble.

Thank you once again Kirsten! The yarn was wonderful to work with and the bright, bold colors were just what I needed!

Those are definitely some bright socks! But very cute, and you’ll always be able to find them in a dark drawer.

Wonderful socks! I’ve been making a point whenever I order sock yarn to get at least one colorway that I ordinarily wouldn’t choose (that usually means a colorway that has absolutely no or very little purple or pink:). I’ve found I really like most of the colorways and I’m able to wear colors on my feet that I would never wear otherwise.

Yay! I’m so happy you are pleased with the colors! As far as the lack of pooling, I must admit to it being pure dumb luck! :) I love the pattern you chose for the yarn. It really works for such bold colors and that cuff is one of my favorites for socks. Enjoy.
