Coffee Convenience
I don’t know how it happened, but the coffee drinking gene hit me. It took me many years post-college for it to hit, but it has. My parents and my sister do not drink coffee. My grandparents are more about convenience than taste (think Folgers) not to mention I don’t stay with them. On this trip we figured there would be fewer coffeeshop trips for wi-fi, plus mom and dad found a restaurant that has faster and more reliable wi-fi. Now, I’m not one who needs their cup of coffee to wake up. And I don’t even have caffeine daily by any means. But in ten days I knew I would be jonesin’ for some java.
Enter, the nifty little Bodum Bistro Mug Press
! It’s a mini french press that hangs on the side of any mug, allowing you to brew just one cup of coffee (or tea). Just fill the very fine meshed basket with coarse ground coffee or loose leaf tea, steep, press, remove and drink. It’s that easy and it doesn’t dirty a press in addition to your mug. It is also dishwasher safe.
I’ve brewed a few cups of coffee with it now. There are a few little things I think I would tweak if I were to redesign it. But they thought of a lot of nifty details. The cup the holds the immersion part of the press is microwave safe and doesn’t get hot, it just heats up your milk/cream should you like to add some. It even has the wall thinned in a spot to make pour less messy. The dripping press also can be set back in there and safely sit on a counter or desk because the cup doesn’t get hot. I think my coffee making could be a tad cleaner if I had a wide mouthed funnel to get the grounds from grinder into the small circumference of the press, but that is a pretty nit picky detail and can be remedied on my next trip to the cupboard.
While I purchased this for the size and packability of it, if I were still working outside of the house I think I would keep one of these in my desk. I’m not likely to use it on a regular basis at home, but I can see it becoming a constant travel companion!
