Dangers of Stash Control…
Some Insight…
- I have a scary-large amount of cotton or cotton blend yarn, especially for someone who decided cotton is not good her her hands. Though I think that is mostly the 100% cotton that is an issue…
- I have a major softness for purple or green yarn…
- I have a large amount of mohair in my stash…
- I have enough novelties to last a lifetime I think… I’m kind of over the eyelash and other novelty yarns I think…
So, yes, I think I got most of the yarn in my studio put into my new crates and roughly sorted. I want to do some better organization. I have 4 pretty decent sized clear zippered bags from when we bought our living room drapes for some of my larger project yarn stash and I’m thinking I’ll pick up some more Zip-Loc backs (perhaps the dollar store variety though) for the rest. Though I have to say I love the unobstructed view of the colors and textures. But a lot of the wound balls like to come unwound, especially if they are kind of slick with rayon or silk content so I think ultimately putting them in bags will be a good thing.
Curious minds want to know how you’ve organized your stash? By color? By weight? By fiber content?
I ended doing it somewhat by weight and somewhat by fiber content. I have an entire cube of cotton and contton blends, then the wools are seperated into sock, sport, worsted and specialty (boucle and mohair), then there is a cube of novelty/synthetics and one of bulky.
In the coming days I’ll be posting some stuff that will be available for trade. Mostly some books I think, but perhaps some yarn as well.

My stash isn’t very large, but I’ll share anyway, as I just “organized” it last weekend. I tried to organize it by project or project type. I have a bag of yarn for my Must Have Cardigan, a bag of sock yarn, a bag of leftover skeins from past projects, and a bag of yarn for each of my current projects, sitting in a separate location from my currently dormant stash.
My goal is to never have a stash so big that I have to organize it by boxes, instead of bags all in one box. Hah!

By color for random yarns/ by “project” for things that I have enough of to complete a project, and / by “let’s hide it under the couch so DH doesn’t know I have this”. So, three categories, I guess.

Well, there’s a separate place for yarn I’ve spun. That’s about the only real organization I’m imposed on my ever-growing stash. Helpful, hunh?
