Clapotis Casualty

At Stitch ‘n Bitch last night, I completed my Clapotis, deciding it was about time I cleared some WIPs before adding to the list. There it is in all of its glory. Yes, I realize not all the stitches are dropped and that there are ends to be woven in. But, it’s an FO right?
Here is Clapotis as of this morning! A big ole trip to the frog pond. Does it mean that I’ve grown up and am an adult knitter now that I’ve completed a project and then completely frogged it? (Please say yes or I might cry.)
You may be asking yourself why I decided to frog the thing… Well, I knew there was some debate as to the accuracy of the yardage needed for Clapotis, so I purchased 850 yds (2 skeins) figuring that would be plenty and I could add a little more length to it in order to make it into more of a wrap. I swatched on US7s and US8s and decided on the US8s. I had thought I was about at gauge for the pattern. However, I arrived at Catalyst Coffee early yesterday and I sat down to do some math for the coordinating shell I was planning on making and took gauge measurements. What did I find? A significantly tighter gauge than called for. So, since it was a pound of yarn and awfully dense (even in comparison to the suggested gauge) and it really wasn’t at an appropriate length for me I frogged it. At some point in the not too distant future I will reknit it. But, it needs to sit in the studio and think about what it has done for a while. I might, however, cast on for the shell in the meantime. We’ll see.

AWWWWWW! How frustrating! I’m so sorry you had to do that!

You are one brave adult knitter for ripping your Clapotis.

Oh gosh, I’m sorry. Been there, done that. I was sort of proud of myself for making the “adult” choice to frog and begin again. It would have been more like me to do anything to get it done and then put it away and never use it. Clap 2 is almost halfway to completion and I like this one SO much better than the first. Good luck with the next go round. Love your color choice.

You *know* how I am about unraveling things, so I have to
give you a big congratulations
I think it’s very brave, and I think you’ll be much happer
with the finished project when you finally reach it!
ps - the scariest thing about steeking is that there is NO
going back! I’m making good progress on the steeked sweater
and have lots of pictures for show & tell.

I so totally understand the need to put your knitting in time-out to contemplate the nature of its misbehavior.

Yes, do the shell first. Let the Clap have a good long time-out;-)
