Fugly FO…

Filed under: Knitting, Follow the Flock, Socks, Finished Objects, Woes, Summer of Socks — Kristi at 8:37 am on Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Wanna see one of the ugliest FOs anyone has bothered to actually knit? I bet you thought it was all roses and pretty socks here, didn’t you? Well, not so much. Remember the shitty week last week? Well the fun just keeps coming! The only bright side are my fun orange toe knails. Deb and I are enjoying showing off our knitting & knails, so please join us!

Now, don’t say I didn’t warn you. The pictures that follow are not for the faint of heart! They could hurt you - looking at them too much or for too long could result in night terrors or even worse could cause you to give up the needles!

Okay, so maybe the wild strawberry plants have you fooled. Everyone loves strawberries so that makes the photo appealing. But I have to confess that these socks do not improve when modeled!

Below is what the cuff was *supposed* to look like…

*sigh*

Hmm, they look great other than the slightly elf-life cuff… what went awry? Great nails!

Okay, I’ll admit I don’t like the cuff, but the rest of the sock is great! Is that ribbing on the instep?

Maybe it’s the yarn? As you know, I also knit a pair of socks from the exact same yarn and the yarn just doesn’t do the pattern justice. Mine aren’t ugly per say (and I don’t think yours are either if you ignore the cuff) but they are’t exactly lovely either.

I’m sorry the cuff ruffle didn’t work out, but hopefully you can make it work out - it’d be quite cute. The socks look great other than the cuff, though. I like the lace pattern quite a bit.

Darn you, cuff! I am sorry it didn’t work out…

Hmm… well I sorta like them. Maybe if the cuff was a bit higher?

I’m sorry you’re not having a great (two) weeks! I hope that things start looking up!

The sock is way cute!! You just need to cast on a bunch more stitches and then do one or 2 rows of rapid decrease! I’ve made ruffled socks before and cast on twice the # of required stitches, then worked even for about 6 rows and then K2tog across = fluffy ruffle. Also a few rows of K1, P1 ribbing before you start the pattern helps “punch up” the ruffle :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE the knails!! You have such cute feet!

I like the yarn and the pattern on the foot. The cuff has to go, though. :-)

Aside from the cuffs they’re nice socks. I’m wondering if making the socks higher would’ve worked better.

Ah. But the rest of the socks are great!

Well, pink and orange as a color combination are not at all helpful when it comes to contributing to an items beauty. I’d say, you were very brave to use that yarn!

Too bad about the cuff, but I like the pedicure. Very cute color!

I hope this the end of the crumminess that has been coming your way. In terms of the socks, I actually rather like the color of the yarn. It’s happy and cheery, particularly in the first photo where your lovely orange nails exactly match with the orange in the yarn (I’m a bit of a sucker for oranges). Perhaps a reincarnation as a simple ribbed or st st pair (or maybe Monkeys) will make things all better?

Love the orange toes! You’ve inspired me - I need a pedicure!

I’m sure you’ll work out that cuff! I do like the ribbing you’ve added under the arch. I think that would hug my high arches nicely. I’ll have to try it on my next pair of socks.

The nails are awesome. The sock, well, we all have weeks. Hope yours is better now, especially your feet.

Bad misbehaving ruffle. But the socks really are cute.

If I had toes like yours, I’d never wear socks…

Oooh, the nails are nice! What a creative way to photograph socks! The cuff looks difficult, I would think the forces of gravity are going to work against it.

[…] Any one recognize this patently girl-y yarn from earlier this summer? Well, I was feeling a bit haunted by my UFOs lately. Some would be quick fixes if I just sat down and did the tedious part of picking up stitches and frogging. While I was recovering from the Labor Day Weekend Bug ™, I swatched for my sweater. While I waited for that sizeable swatch (almost the size of a sleeve, I kid you not - in fact, it fit as a leg warmer) to dry I decided it would be a good time to tackle some of those quick fix things to hopefully up the FO count and decrease the UFO count.
