Nearly Wordless Wednesday: Another Editing Revisit

(original here)

This is *so* much closer to what we really saw. At least as well as I can remember accurately 11 months later…

My nose is to the grindstone putting the finishing touches on the first three patterns for Nourishing Knits so no recipe to share this week. I’ll likely be tardy with comment responses and blog reading/commenting until those are out.

10 on Tuesday: 10 Movies You’d Like to See in the Theater

Barbed Wire Hoarfrost with Cows Revisited

With our recent snow and my massive improvement in post-processing, especially retaining color saturation in the warmer tones when prepping for the web I just had to revisit this photo from my last trip to Minnesota. It’s a subtle difference, but I like that I was able to retain the glow of the frost covered woods from the low winter/morning sun. You can see my original edit here. Since I pretty much can’t post without including a photo I thought I’d share it today even though it doesn’t relate to today’s 10 on Tuesday topic in the least :-)

This week’s topic is another challenging one for me. I haven’t been to the movie theater since I fell asleep at Sherlock Holmes just days before the in-laws descended upon our house for Christmas last year. I’m mostly drawn to fluff romantic comedies these days which really don’t need the big screen for maximum enjoyment and are often not at the top of DH’s list of movies to watch (and his picks are not at the top of my list either). The first two on the list are obvious…

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - of course this is on the list. I don’t know when we’ll go. We’ve gone to the midnight showings of past Harry Potter films, but it is always a struggle for me to stay awake without knitting in my hands that late at night.
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - a bit in the future yet, but I’m pretty positive we’ll see it in the theater.
3. Burlesque - I *loved* Moulin Rouge! on the big screen, all the dancing and gorgeous costumes so I expect this one will have a bit greater impact on the big screen.

Okay, three and I’m kind of stuck. Well, I suppose there are a few classics that might be more entertaining on a big screen…

4. North by Northwest - some of the action scenes in that I’m sure would be thrilling on a larger screen than our little TV.
5. Rebecca may be another Hitchcock I enjoy that would make a greater impact in the theater.
6. For the costuming alone, I’m sure Gone with the Wind would be a great sight on the big screen.

And one romantic comedy that I’d really like to see that is currently in the theaters…
7. While I suspect there is nothing to be gained seeing Life as We Know It in the theater aside from more people laughing with you which can make a movie even funnier and more enjoyable, I’d like to see it.

I think I’m tapped. Having not been to the theater in so long and not generally seeing commercials I’m really out of the loop of what’s playing for the most part. So I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of you all have on your lists and maybe mine will be flushed out by the end of the day!

Carole is running 10 on Tuesday if you want to play along or just see what other, more exciting people are looking forward to seeing in the theater.

Sanity Saver Linkity…

First Snowfall

I’m so glad I took time out to capture snow photos. In true Colorado fashion it is no loner picturesque. Despite getting dustings a few more times there is probably more ground showing than there is snow cover and it is kind of muddy and sloppy and overall icky. But, since I took some time to capture the scene in pixels I can pretend it is still pretty out :-)

It was evidently a very crafty-inspiring week last week…

Nourishing Knits Serialized e-Book First Installment

If you are a Facebook fan, follow my Twitter feed or have checked in on the Designedly, Kristi Knitters Ravelry Group this is old news. Hopefully next week will bring the release of the first installment in my serialized e-book, Nourishing Knits: 24 Projects to Gift and Entertain. The book will contain twelve knitting patterns, each paired with one of my original recipes. With the exception of Guided By Love which is being brought out of retirement for this book and is available only as part of the collection, these are brand new patterns which will be available individually after the final installment on March 15, 2011.

The first installment will include Cornucopia, a gently flared cowl knit will be paired with a special holiday dessert perfect for this time of year. A short, fully reversible and very versatile scarf, Bordeaux, is paired with a vegetarian black bean chili for the slow cooker that is so thick and hearty you may not even miss the meat. And lastly, I’ve read every single e-mail, rav mail and ravelry comment for requests for the Guided By Love sock pattern to be available again. So, by popular demand it is coming out of retirement just for this e-book! It is paired with a special treat for your four-legged friends which was tested and given 7 enthusiastic tails up (and one teenage thumb) thanks to my Monday night knitters group.

You’ll be hearing more about this in the coming weeks. Subscriptions won’t be open until the first installment is ready. But, if you subscribe before the final installment you’ll save 25% in addition to getting the patterns as they are ready. There will be a variety of accessories, a couple sweaters to cover everyone in the family, some home accessories and more. The recipes are all great for gifting or sharing with friends and family and include both vegetarian savory main dishes and sweets.

So, that’s my big news, and part of the reason this week has been so crazy :-)

Thankful Thursday - The One With Snow

Filed under: Thankfulness — Kristi at 8:01 pm on Thursday, November 11, 2010

While I’m not participating in NaNoBloMo and it is going to kill me to keep up with all of you who are, it has sparked a few good things. One of those is Thankful Thursdays which I learned about from Carole, the fearless leader of 10 on Tuesdays these days. I already had last Thursday’s post on soap ready to go when I learned of it, but November is such a fitting month to take time to be thankful. Plus, as holiday craziness ramps up I’ll take any help I can find in looking for the positive.

So, being the follower that I am, I’m jumping in this week despite chasing my own tail. There are still a few hours left of Thursday so here we go…

1. As it is Veteran’s Day I am of course very thankful to those who have served our country in the past, present and future. I am also very thankful for their families who also are making a large sacrifice.

2. I am thankful for the first snow of the year that started late last night and continued through much of today. It is much later than many years (2 of the 11 falls I’ve spent in CO we’ve had significant accumulating snowfalls by mid-September and a normal year is considered one with snow on Halloween). This one has been light and steady and very beautiful. There is something I love about seeing the mix of seasons - autumn leaves with winter’s snow or spring’s bulbs blooming with winter’s snow. It must be the contrast. Anyway, I decided to mark the occasion and show my gratitude for our four seasons by taking a bit of time out to capture the first snowfall in images.

3. I am thankful for friends and family who have been putting up with me this past crazy year that is likely to be even crazier for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your help and support and feedback!

4. And, because this week is busy not only for me, but also for DH as we head into the uphill climb towards finals I am thankful that we both have fairly flexible schedules that allow us to find a bit of time to spend together wherever we may be able to find them. (How’s that for a run-on sentence? I’m too tired and have been on the computer far too many hours the past two days to fix it, sorry!)
