June Spectrum Sunday 1

Filed under: Spinning, Follow the Flock, Photography, Project Spectrum — Kristi at 9:36 pm on Sunday, June 4, 2006

Well, before I packed up the new camera to go back I played with a bit with a focus on Project Spectrum. This means three June desktop backgrounds to choose from - 2 yarn-centric and one spinning/felting-centric. To set as your desktop wallpaper just click on the one you want to use then click on the “all sizes” right above it, choose the largest size and then right click on the image and choose “Set as Wallpaper” or similar item.

I also have followed through on my spinning. I’ve spun up almost 2 oz of the bright blue superwash from Brown Sheep back in March. There is a total of 9 oz there and I’m spinning it to be a sock weight 2-ply. I spun for an hour or so on Friday evening and then several shorter times on Saturday. Today I’ve only predrafted fiber, but it means I can steal small amounts of time more easily tomorrow. Since the roving is in the project spectrum colors I give you two more photos that I took while playing with the new camera that gets shipped back tomorrow…

Blue Roving in Black and White Spinning Blues

Both photos were taken in very low light. The color spot one was done with a color spot mode on the camera, though I did some (though I should have done a bit better job) further clean up in Photoshop, but it really cut down on the time it usually takes to do a spot color photos.

Also along the lines of spinning… It seemed when I posted about wanting to be sure to spin more regularly there were several of you who popped up and reported the same goal. I was wondering if anyone else wouldn’t like being held accountable a bit for thier goals and have some sort of summer spinning challenge (a more clever name is certainly needed), but we could each set our own personal goals and report in on how we’re doing. Anyone else game??

oh, man. I’m so game for this if you do it.

I’ve got knitting goals already, modestly made since I know good and well I’ll be tempted by other projects in there, too. But my spinning has taken such a back-seat to everything else that fiber is threatening a revolt and may actually beat me down in wooly clouds if I don’t get to it again soon.

I’m. so. in. :)

Great blue photos although that does stink about the camera being damaged. I’d be up for a Summer spinning challenge.

Great blue pictures. One day I’ll figure out how to do that color spot thing because it’s just so cool. I don’t spin yet but my goal for the summer is to take a spinning class.

I could be game for a spinning challenge. I’ve been consumed with other things lately… I need some focused spinning time…

I need to focus on my spinning again, I really do. At the same time, I’m seriously considering selling my wheel to help out with the budget crisis, so we’ll just have to see.

I’m always up for a challenge. I was very happy this weekend to get the next set of single bobbins spun up and then actually got them plied Sunday. My personal goal is to spin at least a little every day.

Hmmm, how about Fun to be Spun. okay maybe not.

[…] But, before yesterday’s craziness I did go ahead and get a summer spinning challenge site set up. If you said you were game on the Spectrum Sunday post I put you on the list of participants. If you’ve thought otherwise since then, just let me know. Others wishing to join, just send an e-mail to fiberfool at gmail dot com with Summer Spinning in the subject line and I’ll get you added as soon as I can. I’ll start sending out invites to join the blog as an author late this week. […]

[…] A couple of you were correct, the blue yarn is handspun. It’s the same fiber that was on my wheel in the first June PS post. It was purchased at Brown Sheep Company when we went on our Spring Break Road Trip up there back in March. […]
