SP4 Questionaire
Hello SP4! I got my match over the weekend so I figured it was about time to share the questionaire once again.
I’m not sure my answers will have changed too much since last round, but I think they did change slightly, so I’ll fill out the questionaire again…
1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer high- a nd/natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you?
I’m not a yarn snob in that I only like high-end yarns, though I prefer 100% natural fibers which limits Red Heart and Lion Brand. I do occassionally go for LB novelty yarns as an element to a design, but not too often.
2. Do you spin? Crochet?
I want a spinning wheel. It’s on my ultimate wishlist. I have a drop spindle, but with some of my health issues I find it hard on me to actually spin with it long enough to get the rhythm down. I only crochet when required to edge a pattern. I tried to make snowflakes a couple years ago to use in place of bows on the holiday gifts that year, but I fail miserably at following the patterns. I haven’t tried it since…
3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)
I’m sensitive to perfumes and highly allergic to smoke and cats.
4. How long have you been knitting?
I’m about at the 1.5 year mark of solidly knitting. Though I had learned as a child and made some doll blankets and the bias garter square kitchen rags, but gave it up relatively quickly due to a lack of yarn selection in my hometown.
5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
I do indeed have an Amazon wishlist. I’m all about used items too.
6. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
Citrus! Especially Lime or Grapefruit, preferrably pure without the addition of herb or other non-citrusy scents.
7. Do you have a sweet tooth?
Yes :-( I have a healhty (or not so healthy) sweet tooth. I’m trying to limit fat intake though so I’m having to stick with non or low fat treats like licrorice (Twizzlers) or Good ‘n Plenty. And, if I do chocolate I go for the dark variety as I’m also trying to limit dairy intake as much as possible too.
8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?
I do mixed media work and bookbinding.
9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I like what is often called adult alternative - Jack Johnson, Train, Sister Hazel and many others. I also enjoy classic jazz (Ella, Benny Goodman, Dizzy, Duke, etc.) and bluegrass (Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Nickel Creek etc.). I have relatively wide ranging tastes, though new wave, funk, rap and most punk don’t really do anything for me. And, yes, my computer can play MP3s and I have a small MP3 player I use from time to time as well.
10. What’s your favorite color? Or-do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer?
Purples! And, anything that is rich and deep - jewel tones and autumnal colors are high on my list. I’m also very fond of sage and moss greens.
11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I live with my DH of 2.5 years and our dog, Emma. We may be adding a second dog in the spring.
12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)
Hmmm…. which types of dreams? ;-) LOL! I want to have a gallery show my work and sell it. And I’d like to be able to make enough money with my art and teaching to support DH for a while so he could pursue his creative interests like his music recording and novel writing he enjoys.
13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?
I haven’t had a real broad exposure to yarns. I had been using Lamb’s Pride quite a bit, but am not fond of how the mohair content obscures stitch patterns. Though that isn’t as much of a problem with their superwash.
14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I haven’t had good luck with 100% cotton yarns unless they are mercerized. Otherwise they are just so rigid they bother my hands/wrists.
15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?
Socks! Socks! Socks! and a bit of Lace!
16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Socks :-) Though I’m thinking of doing some more felting in the future since I discovered that my front loading washer can indeed be coaxed into felting.
17. What are you knitting right now?
I’m working a multidirectional scarf in Noro Silk Garden for DH. Then I’m working on my own sock design in Lang Jawoll. I also have some mohair on the needles that needs to come off if possible and turn into a scarf/wrap for my grandmother.
18. What do you think about ponchos?
I’m thinking I’m over them. Even though I have 1/2 of one completed, LOL! Figures, huh?
19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?
Circular, definitely circular. Unless you’re talking socks, mittens, gloves etc. Then I prefer DPNs. Though I’m thinking of trying the two circ method. But I really, really disliked the magic loop method.
20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
For me, it really just depends upon the combination of the fiber and the needle. I prefer metal for sticky yarns like mohair, but if I can I guess I probably ultimately prefer bamboo.
21. Are you a sock knitter?
Yes! Yes! Yes! :-)
22. How did you learn to knit?
My grandmother, mom and aunt all helped me learn as a child. Then I a took a class in November 2003 at my LYS and learned to knit a mitten. Then the bug had bit and I was a goner. It is a rare day that I don’t knit ever since that first mitten class.
23. How old is your oldest UFO?
Gosh, it’ll be nearly a year now. It’s the Shapely Tank. It’s 100% cotton and was rough on my hands/wrists so I quit. But I’ve been thinking about it lately so I think I may pick it back up in March or so.
24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?
As far as cartoons go I don’t think I really have one. I was a big Garfield freak in Jr. High. But, I think I’m over it. Though I do like Wallace and Grommit and their characters. As for a favorite animal, that would have to be dogs. Since my birthday is often close to Easter I was sort of forced into collecting rabbits/bunnies as a child and I’m sick to death of them.
25. What is your favorite holiday?
My birthday??? LOL! It is tax day, don’t people want to celebrate that? LOL! Probably Christmas is my favorite holiday though I mostly like any of them as they are a good excuse to throw a fun party for our friends.
26. Is there anything that you collect?
A little of everything, LOL! Being a mixed media artist I tend to hoard and collect items that are fun to use in collage - foreign text from newspapers or books, old books, vintage photographs and postcards, old game boards etc.
