Another Kind of Olympics…

Ft. Collins Sr. Center Aqua Olympic Medals

While I did not participate in the knitting olympics, I did participate in another olympic event. And, it wasn’t the couch potato olympic watching event (though there was a heck of a lot of that going on around here last week). I was part of the Fort Collins Senior Center Aqua Olympics. Well, it wasn’t official or that, but our instructor Susan (whom I call Aqua Susan since there are too many Susans in this town who have or are teachers of some sort to me) is *very* creative and had developed many ways in which we could be part of the winter olympics. Most of the time we do cross country ski laps as warm ups and speed skater as we start cool downs, but she figured out ways for us to figure skate, bob sled, biathalon (involving the usual cross country ski with some hand eye coordination shooting bands into a box) etc. When on Wednesday she mentioned that today would be closing ceremonies I thought it would be fun to make medals for our class.

Since we keep thinking the Torino medals look like CDs on a ribbon I had an epiphany. A couple years ago my mom had bought this HUGE spindle of 200 CDs for $20 from Office Max. Well, it ended up to not be such a bargain as many of them wouldn’t burn. I wrote the company and they tried to tell me it was my CD burner, but it didn’t work in any of the burners we had here at the house or in a few of them as DH’s work. Well, I gave them new life and they have become the official 9:30 am Classic Water Aerobics Aqua Olympic Medals….

A closer look at the olympic medals.

On that note, this Olympic comittee member must be off to deliver the medals to the official and be sure to not be late for the closing ceremonies…

P.S. I was part of team Sweden if anyone had any doubts :-)

EDIT: I totally deserved my medal too! In these two weeks I’ve said goodbye to another 3 lbs! I’m quite stunned seeing as there is likely some water retention happening with the aid of hormones and increased caffiene ingestion due to the arrival of my very first coffee maker (the post-Valentine’s Day gift from DH).
