My Fiber Space…

3/1/2006

Do you remember that meme that was going around several months ago where you were to post a pic of your knitting space? I was never tagged for that, but it didn’t really matter since I didn’t have a specific space. I knit anywhere and everywhere from the futons in our basement media room to the loveseat in the living to the dining room table and occassionally even in bed, out at pubs and coffeeshops, I’ve even been known to have a sock project in my glove compartment in case of trains.

Well, that all changed yesterday. I now have a space to call my very own. I think I mentioned after the holidays that an order had been placed for a chair for me. It was delivered early yesterday afternoon, one year and three days after our loveseat was delivered. I specifically took knitting with me when shopping for said chair to be sure that the arms were low enough to not get in the way. So, I now have a “me” chair. I’m so excited I could do a happy dance rather than sit in it with my feet up, LOL!

So, without further ado, I present my fiber space…

The space that I will be knitting and spinning.

It’s not the best picture as I took early yesterday evening, but it still gives you a good idea. On the ceramic column on the hearth I have Season 1 of Gilmore Girls (I’m on my third or fourth viewing, I’ve lost track), my iPod Nano and my cell phone. Down on the hearth is a drink and the land line phone. Along side the chair is my knitting bag. On the other side of the chair is a wroght iron plant stand that holds my lap top for DVD viewing, blog reading, and other various computery activities. Next to that is my trusty Majacraft Suzie Pro and the big box of Romeldale wool that I just started playing with a bit this weekend trying to decide the best drafting method.

I haven’t tried spinning in this chair yet, but I think it is going to work and I think it’ll be good for me. I had been spinning in a discarded chair from Agilent (we got through FIL when he used to work there) which is quite comfortable, but if I’m doing long draw that lack of arms makes me start twisting and wrenching my body in ways that probably aren’t so good for my sensitive back and neck. I think this chair will force me to be a bit more aware of my positioning.

I *love* the ottoman! The top is flat enough that we can set a tray on it with drinks and such, but it has a rounded top so that if I bring it in tight to the chair my knees stay bent just a tiny bit so they aren’t overextended. It’s a perfect fit!

Tomorrow I’ll introduce you to some Project Spectrum stuff for today marks the kick-off!
